Each of our Yarmouth Food Lovers Market boxed meals is packaged in recycled or recyclable packaging – no plastic!
Our brown biodegradable, leak-proof food carton is made from sustainably sourced paper, with an inner compostable lining--making it totally leak proof--and is coated with a fully compostable material. The brown carton bio-degrades quickly. Fold-down flaps seal the box, protecting it against spills, and requiring no further seals. It is suitable for use in a microwave.
Our biodegradable, leak-proof, round & brown food pot and lid is made from heavy-duty paperboard. It has a leak-proof inner compostable lining. It bio-degrades quickly. It retains heat and retains cold, keeping our products at the right temperature. Its double re-inforced lid is tight-fitting, helps prevent leakage, and has two built-in air vents to prevent the build-up of steam or condensed water. It is suitable for freezer or microwave use.
We provide our YFLM dips, dressings, sauces and toppings in a more Earth-friendly way with Vegware compostable cold portion pots. THESE ARE NOT PLASTIC! As these portion pots are made from renewable, plant-based PLA, they have an incredibly small carbon footprint and are not stripping the planet of its precious finite materials and are a superb green alternative to traditional plastic pots, helping YFLM to reduce the environmental impact of our delivery and take-away service. The PLA material means these pots can also be composted within 12 weeks when sent to commercial composting facilities. This will help our customers to divert rubbish away from landfill and into more eco-friendly waste streams.
Just like an old-fashioned fishmonger or butchers, we wrap our marinaded meat, fish and vegan main dishes and our cheeses, into brown, kraft Laypel natural duplex wrapping. This is the most environmentally friendly wrapping available on the market. The paper and detachable PEHD sheets make this the easiest food wrapping to recycle. By peeling away the PEHD sheet our customers can place the food wrapping paper and plastic into their different waste streams at home.
We use heavy quality brown, Kraft, roll-top bags for items requiring bags, and for smaller orders. This is made of 100% recyclable paper. It can also be re-used multiple times at home by our customers before recycling. We also like that it has a bit of a “retro” style grocery bag look to it.
After all our portions are packaged into recyclable containers--including the bread--we then pack all of them into a delivery box:
We use previously used archive boxes. These archive boxes were only used once for papers from offices across England. They are selected by our supplier, who chooses only the best boxes and recycles the rest.
This archive box consists of a once-used strong double-wall open-top box together with a used single wall die-cut lid.
This box also has an interlocking base, which means there is no need to use adhesive tape that is not recyclable. The use of these previously used external archive boxes is much more cost-efficient. We are able to pass those cost-savings onto you, our customers, whilst feeling we have done our part to help the environment.
Food Lovers Garden
Our family grow and nurture fresh vegetables, fruits, and herbs in our Food Lovers Market garden.
We do not use insecticides or pesticides. We only use manure from our horses, who are all grass and grain-fed. (We have more than we need!)
Nearly everything has been planted for a huge crop to come very soon!
We also raise chickens for laying beautiful fresh eggs for use by our speciality chefs. We have two types of chickens: point to lay chickens and silver spangled Hamburg chickens!
Check out our garden in the gallery!
Our desire to give back to the community goes beyond using local food and drink suppliers. We believe in supporting our NHS and key workers during the Covid-19 crisis. Due to this, we have a 25% discount for all NHS workers and carers. In addition, £1 will be added to every bill per box delivered that is donated to our chosen Covid-19 charities around Yarmouth. The funds raised over the past months we are excited to donate this straight to the West Wight Sports Centre Community Outreach Hub for Coronavirus, alongside our fresh eggs and vegetables each week.
We also believe in helping those who are sheltering in their efforts to donate, so when we deliver our boxes to you we can also pick-up any donations (left on your doorstep) to the food bank in Colwell Bay. Covid-19 has brought our community together, and we relish the opportunity to be able to do our bit and give back to those who have done so much to keep our community and country safe.
